Olaplex is eyeing a new category in beauty: lashes.

The hair care company is leveraging its expertise and IP in bond building technology to offer a new serum that it says is designed to help eyelashes look longer, thicker and stronger.

“As the leader in prestige haircare, we’ve taken our proven science to deliver a new, breakthrough innovation for lashes that is clinically proven for effective results without any side effects. We are excited to harness the power of our world-famous bond building technology and apply it to new product categories like lashes for real results,” said Lavinia Popescu, chief scientist for Olaplex.

Olaplex Lashbond Building serum is a clear, lightweight lash serum that promotes the look of longer, thicker stronger and healthier lashes with what Popescu called “next-generation” Olaplex Peptide Complex Technology. The proprietary peptide blend features an Olaplex-exclusive peptide that supports the natural lash growth cycle and lash retention to promote the appearance of longer, fuller, denser lashes. The bond building technology helps support the skin barrier at the lash line to support a better environment for lash growth, according to Olaplex.

“Exclusive, patented Olaplex Bond Building Technology helps support the skin barrier at the lash line to support a better environment for lash growth. Hyaluronic acid and biotin promote healthy-looking, nourished lashes and reduce the appearance of dry, brittle lashes,” Popescu added.

The company says the vegan formulation safely targets five top lash concerns without unwanted effects: lash length, volume and density, loss and shedding, dry and brittle lashes, and lack of natural lift and curl.

Clinical Testing

According to the brand, independent third-party clinical trials were performed to ensure high levels of performance and safety, including ophthalmologist testing. Participants reported more conditioned, healthier-looking lashes in two weeks. Participants reported seeing the appearance of longer, fuller lashes in four weeks.

At the conclusion of a 12 week study, 94% experienced more voluminous-looking lashes; 97% reported improvement in the appearance of denser lashes; 97% reported improvement in the appearance of longer lashes; and 100% reported improvement in the appearance of thicker lashes.

The formula is prostaglandin-free, as well as 100% free of sulfates, phthalates, parabens, silicone and gluten. It is designed to be used twice daily on clean, dry skin.

“We’re launching now because we’re confident in what we’re offering consumers—Olaplex Lashbond delivers real results, some in as little as two weeks, without the concerns from other lash-building products available on the market today,” asserted Popescu.

The serum retails for $68. It debuts today on www.olaplex.com, www.sephora.com and www.ulta.com.
